15-year-old Nahid fled Afghanistan shortly before the Taliban came to power and, after a gruelling odyssey, has ended up stranded with her family in a Bosnian border village. Her attempts to enter the EU are repeatedly thwarted by violent pushbacks. Nahid finds a confidante in an older Bosnian woman and has to be strong for her family – as a daughter, interpreter and organiser.
Excerpt from the jury’s statement
“A documentary essay that provides a disturbing insight into the situation on the Bosnian-Croatian border. A respectful visual language with poetic moments conveys the events sensitively, but without intrusive dramatisation.”
