18-year-old Romanian Liana lives and works with her father Stancu in Germany, in shabby and exploitative circumstances. Like so many migrant workers, they have to deal with a windy subcontractor, false promises and unpaid wages. Liana is faced with an existential dilemma: to make possible her longed-for trip home and to convince her father to return to her family in Romania, she cannot help but get him into trouble.

“An impressive, richly detailed cinematic narrative in which lighting direction and camera have a special dramaturgical significance. In addition, there is a bravura performance by the leading actress. The topic is virulent, but is treated here without scandalizing but with a pleasantly nuanced attention to the views of those affected.”
