There are dramatic scenes every day alongside the fences of the refugee camps: families find their relatives once again, many have not seen each other for two-and-a-half-years. For security reasons, they can only greet each other through the fence. Every man and also teenager, who wants to enter the refugee camp is checked regarding their feelings about the IS and in some case isolated for days. A controversial procedure. The offensive against the IS has triggered a huge flood of refugees. More than 135,000 people have fled in recent months from the violence in Northern Iraq.
Excerpt from the jury’s statement
The reasons for flight are clear – very moving, excellently documented.
