Lampedusa, longed-for gateway to Europe, border without barbed wire in the middle of the Mediterranean. The dramatic images and reports of one of the biggest ship catastrophes compel us to take a personal view, to look into our innermost core – without ideological preconditions or political influences. The report shows survivors and also some who died. Lampedusa – at the crossroads of distant worlds. Here, people meet together who know nothing about each other, who never came close to each other – until they grasped for the rescuing lifeline.
