Cookery classes given by refugees. Syrian, Afghan, Cambodian dishes are cooked. Each week dishes from a different home country. The refugees are not professional chefs, but men and women who live in refugee camps. The reports want to give refugees a face – in this case, Alex Assali. He prepares, at his own expense, hot meals which he distributes to the homeless on the Alexanderplatz in Berlin. Why? Because he wants to do it, because he can do it, because he is grateful.
Excerpt from the jury’s statement
Gives refugees a voice, is close to the protagonists – with unusual statements, impressive, moving.
