Jan is 10 years old. He has been living in Germany for one year, speaks five languages and has already lived in three countries: in Syria, Turkey and Germany. In his 10 years, Jan has already travelled extensively. But not voluntarily. Because Jan originally comes from Aleppo in Syria, where a terrible war has been raging for nearly four years and half of the people are on the run. Jan lives with his parents and his little brother as a refugee in Germany. He is looking forward to finally be able to go back to school.
Excerpt from the jury’s statement
Powerful, in simple language for children, moving – Flight from the perspective of a child, very convincing.
