Switzerland’s population has risen dramatically since the 1950s: first there were the so-called guest workers from Southern Europe, later refugees from Sri Lanka and the Balkan states and most recently from EU countries. The idyllic village of Opfikon near Zurich has undergone major changes as a result of these migrations. Between the old-established residents of Opfikon who mourn the passing of “their” village, and the efforts of the immigrants to integrate, the report offers a differentiated overview.
