Seventy, eighty, sometimes even a hundred and fifty people – packed together in small open fishing boats. Their destination: The Canary Isles, Europe. Many do not survive the journey of several weeks from Senegal, Gambia or Mauritania. The fate of the refugees is closely connected with the failed fishing policy of the EU. For decades European trawlers have been fishing off the coast of West Africa and contribute to the fact that the people there are being deprived of their basic living conditions.
